Ellen quit. Kara was fired. Jennifer Lopez was hired. Steven Tyler, too. And Randy Jackson is the last judge standing. True or false?

Ellen quit! I’m not surprised. Are you? Do you remember when Simon told Oprah that when Ellen signed on to do Idol, she had no idea that Simon was about to drop his “I’m outta here” bombshell? She started the day he quit, more or less. Imagine that! I’m betting that she decided to do one season right then and there. Just my astute observation.

Kara fired?
Further … on the hot carpet, TMZ.com reports that Kara DioGuardi was fired from Idol, and that American Idol is reportedly returning to their three-judge format, which includes Randy Jackson.

I suspect that they are keeping Randy on, not because he’s the hottest dawg since sliced bread, but rather so that some semblance of continuity and comfort remain. Three new judges would be too jarring.

Jennifer Lopez? Steven Tyler?
As I hear it, the three judges are Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

But wait, what about P Diddy?
P Diddy, a.k.a. Sean Combs, told George Lopez on his show Lopez Tonight, that he would love the job.

“At first when people were asking me if I was interested in the job I was like no … that’s not my style, but once I heard what Simon makes … [I] would love the job. . . . . I’ve got six kids. If I would get the same check Simon gets … we would have a ball.”

A word to P Diddy – P. do you really need more to have a ball with your six kids?

At the end of the day, the name of the show is American Idol. And I am hoping that the contestants are compelling enough, both in song and story, to carry the show forward. Remember when Fantasia sang Stormy Weather? I’m seriously hungry for more of that!

What are you hungry for? What shows curb your nighttime eating? What shows keep you out of the kitchen and away from the fridge?

Even though all diets work if you follow them (and that’s a big IF), choosing the right plan, a healthy plan that is sustainable (as in for life) proves, for many of us, to be an overwhelming task.

There’s too much exploring, investigating, thinking and planning involved for people who are as busy as we are; too much work. Right? We’ve got better things to do with our time than concern ourselves with the insignificant details of our health.

We prefer mindless dieting to mindful eating.
We want someone to tell us what to do. Serve up a simple plan, if you will. We intellectually understand that there is no ‘magic bullet,’ but we still cling to the hope that there is one. And, so we are willing to entertain yet another fad diet.

Enter the picture, Tracy Anderson, fitness trainer to the ’stars,’ like Madonna (well – until she fired her) and Gwyneth Paltrow, with her “Baby Food Diet.”

Basically, the baby food diet consists of 14 portions of puréed food, followed by a healthy dinner daily. The big plus (if you want to consider it a plus) is that the baby food diet is a no-brainer. You stock up on baby food and eliminate the need to plan, weigh, measure, or think.

The negatives are numerous. Baby food, while relatively additive-free and fortified with nutrients is not engineered for adults. At the end of the day, you might find that you are not only lacking the proper nutrients, but that your daily calorie count is under 1,200 calories a day, which can backfire. Your metabolism can slow down and, in turn, trigger your body to store the calories that you are eating as fat.

For more information about the nutritional value of baby food and their thoughts on the Baby Food Diet, I turned to the Gerber people that proved interesting. Here’s what they have to say.

Chew on This!
“Nestlé Infant Nutrition/Gerber Products Company is aware of the current “Baby Food Diet,” and while consuming pureed fruits and vegetables can contribute toward the recommended intakes of fruits and vegetables, Gerber does not promote the use of pureed baby foods for weight loss purposes. . . . . ”

Gerber also points out that . . . . “Foods for young children might seem like ‘mush’ to an adult. But adults have a full set of teeth and years of experience feeding themselves! The textures, flavors and shapes we incorporate into the products are carefully matched to feeding developmental cues. When we create new products we’re thinking about things such as children’s ability to maneuver their tongue, mash foods with their jaws, self-feed with fingers, use utensils, bite through harder textures, and much more. Young children have a lot of oral and motor skills to master before they are ready for the more advanced tastes and textures of “adult” foods!

There you have it. In addition to possibly not getting the proper nutrients, or ingesting enough calories, you aren’t using your teeth. You do want to maneuver your tongue, mash foods with your jaw, and use your motor skills, don’t you?

Spread the word … NOT the icing!
Janice

Last night, when Willamina (star character of ABC Family’s new show “HUGE,” played by Nikki Blonsky of “Hairspray”) was told to strip down to her bathing suit for the annual group ‘before’ photo, I cringed. I cringed for her, and for me. It brought back an unpleasant, somewhat traumatic memory.

When I was in second grade, we were told by the school nurse to stand in a line in our underwear. One by one, we climbed onto the scales of injustice. The nurse weighed us, yelled the number to her assistant, and it was logged into the record books. “Janice, 112 lbs.” Subtext: Janice, at 8 years old, is ‘the fat one.’ There is something wrong with her. Let it be written. Let it be so.

I suppose that’s one of the pluses (pardon the pun) of HUGE, a show that follows the lives of seven teens and the staff at Camp Victory, a weight loss camp, as they delve deep below the adipose tissue to unearth their true, beautiful selves.

Everyone at Camp Victory is overweight – okay fat – and they are not freaks. It is their new normal, for the summer, anyway. And, if we, the audience, are uncomfortable with viewing rolls of fat, we ought get over it fast.

The main character, Willamina, or Will, is forced by her parents to go to Camp Victory to lose it. And she does ‘lose it’ and who wouldn’t? The campers gather around the proverbial campfire and are asked what it’s like to ‘miss their favorite foods.’ AND even though they are fed healthy foods, at the end of the day they are left hungry.

Anger, resentment and rebellion set in, and Will decides to leave, or escape, if you will. I am right there with her, major league pissed off. She’s got her reasons for leaving, and I’ve got mine.

As a weight loss coach and someone who after a lifetime of yo-yo dieting permanently removed over 50 pounds, I can tell you with certainty that focusing on foods that you miss will only increase cravings. We manifest what we focus on, for goodness sake. Don’t the writers of this show know that???

As for going to bed hungry, geeze Louise! If you are hungry, then you haven’t eaten enough. Camp Victory should have a bowl of fruit and fresh veggies readily available. Food isn’t the enemy.

At the end of the day (and show), predictably – because without Will there is no television series – she returns to Camp Victory. And predictably, I return with her.

Tune in next week to see how Will fares, as well as the beautiful Amber, played by Hayley Hasselhoff, who gives a new spin on thin. It’s all relative, baby! And tune in to see what weight loss faux pas the writers have written into the script that will undoubtedly have my head spinning!

Spread the word … NOT the icing!

Another story of betrayal! I liked that Sandra Bullock was ‘happily’ married to Jesse James. I like off-beat characters, and sweet love stories. When Sandra got all teary-eyed at the Oscars, smiling lovingly at her beloved husband, I got teary-eyed too, and held hands with my husband.

Now, less than two weeks later, that fairy tale (I guess it was a fairy tale) has morphed into a story of betrayal and a nightmare for Sandra. Jesse James, her husband of five years, host of Monster Garage, has allegedly been cheating on Sandra with tattoo artist, Michelle ‘Bombshell’ Mcgee.

If you are worried that your relationship could go adrift, here are some sex and relationship tips that just may help!

Been together for a long time? Sex has a tendency to ebb and flow over the years, however if it goes downhill and doesn’t start on an upward climb for too long a period of time, don’t just say ‘oh well.’ Be sure to sit down and talk about it.

Don’t let it fester. If you are angry about anything, sit down and talk about it. Do not stuff it down, or bury it in any way, shape or form. It is sure to fester, gain strength and bite you in the tush at some point. Once again, honest communication rules.

Resist temptation. Don’t assume that you (or your significant other) won’t be tempted to have an affair. Statistics show that it’s a fairly common occurrence (the temptation, not necessarily the affair). Breaking the sacred bond of trust is devastating. It’s just not worth it.

Blame game . It’s easy to get into the blame game, to criticize each other, nag and complain. But … It only makes matters worse. Instead try taking the high road, and get in the habit of listening, trusting and respecting each other’s point of view.

More Relationship Rescue:

And the Oscar for Best, Most Sincere, and Inspired Quotes goes to:

For the Moms …
“I would like to thank what this film is about for me which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from. Those moms and parents never get thanked.” – Sandra Bullock, after winning the award for best actress.

For the Women and Men in the Military …
“I’d just like to dedicate this to the women and men in the military who risk their lives on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world. And may they come home safe.” – Kathryn Bigelow, upon winning the Oscar for best director.

For Mom and Dad and groovy professions …
“Thank you, Mom and Dad, for turning me on to such a groovy profession. Oh, my dad and my mom, they loved show biz so much. … I feel an extension of them. You know, this … is honoring them as much as it is me.” – Jeff Bridges, after winning the Oscar for best actor.

For a shiny dose of inspiration …
“What we did with Avatar, if you really look at it, we took things that are out there in the world every day, we just made them bigger, shinier. … But all our inspiration comes from the real world. So if you really look, you can see all those things around you, and I would just encourage people to get out and look for it.” – Joe Letteri, after winning the award for achievement in visual effects.

For making it real … and for Sidney, too …
“I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics. … Thank you so much to my amazing husband, Sidney. Thank you for showing me that sometimes you have to forgo doing what’s popular in order to do what’s right. And baby, you were so right.” – MoNique, after winning the Oscar for best supporting actress.

For the precious dream …
“This is for everybody who works on the dream every day: precious boys and girls everywhere.” – Geoffrey Fletcher, after winning the best adapted screenplay award for “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire.”

For the possibilities …
“Never did I dream that making a flip book out of my third-grade math book would lead to this.” – Pete Docter, accepting the best animated feature film award for “Up.”

Hungry for more Celebrity Weight!!!
Mo’Nique loses 40 and puts a lid on it!

Is Oprah Hypnotizing YOU?

Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks by eating 56 eggs. Would you? Weigh-In with Janice Taylor your weight loss coach! Making Weight Loss FUN!

According to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s recently published personal papers, she thought a slimmer version of herself might project a more powerful persona. In 1979, she purged 20 pounds with the help of 56 eggs!

The 20 Pound Plan!
Thatcher’s CRASH Plan included spinach, grapefruit, steak for dinner, black coffee, tea and, every so often – for good measure – a shot of whisky (taken with meat – otherwise not!).

However, it is believed that it was the one or two eggs for breakfast, coupled with a couple more at lunch time that did the trick!

Would you down 28 eggs a week, for two weeks? Hang the health?
Research shows that not all nutritionists, dieticians, and weight loss gurus are in agreement that eggs have a direct connection to high blood cholesterol. Some studies call the ‘egg’ the perfect protein. Eggs are high in vitamin B12, provide nearly a third of our daily Vitamin D requirement, and they are high in minerals.

Weigh-In!
Nevertheless, would you down 28 a week? 56 eggs in two weeks? Comment below!

Give me a break! While perusing the headlines this morning, I stumbled upon an ‘after and before’ (thin to heavy) photo of Keely Shaye Smith, Pierce Brosnan’s wife, with the aforementioned headline on x17online.com.

It’s not that Pierce Brosnan isn’t swell. But really!! If Keely Shaye Smith wants to get in shape or lose weight, I sure hope she’s doing it for herself, first and foremost.

If you are thinking that you might want to lose a pound or two or even twenty of fifty (or more), before you jump on the weight loss bandwagon, you might want to get clear on why you want to lose weight.

Here are 6 powerful ‘coach yourself thin’ questions from your Weight Loss Coach, Janice Taylor!

Are you losing weight for you, or someone else?

What will losing weight give you that you wouldn’t otherwise have?

What does your body have to say about your choices?

What have you learned from past weight loss attempts?

What takes you off-course?

How will you celebrate yourself one year from now?Hungry for more fat-melting questions?

A study conducted by the British Medical Journey of approximately 3,000 men and women between the ages of 35 to 65 indicated that those with a thigh circumference of less than 23.6 inches "greatly increased" their risk of developing heart disease and dying prematurely!

Just yesterday, I was sharing with a friend that my greatest accomplishment in life (yes, all of life) – aside from having children (got to say that, right?) – is that I permanently removed over 50 pounds and there is a space between my thighs! That’s right!!!

I no longer house economy-sized bottles of baby powder to rub between my thighs before a summer-time walk! I no longer suffer from thigh ‘chafing!’

Amazing accomplishment, no? Something you can relate to, yes?

Well then, you can imagine my upset when I read this morning that a study conducted by the British Medical Journey of approximately 3,000 men and women between the ages of 35 to 65 indicated that those with a thigh circumference of less than 23.6 inches “greatly increased” their risk of developing heart disease and dying prematurely!

The people at the greatest risk of developing heart and circulation problems and dying prematurely are people whose thigh circumference measures less than 18 inches! And, further – just so you know – there is no benefit from having thighs that are larger than 23.6 inches!

So to those who have 23.6 inch thighs, mazel tov! You’re perfect. To those who measure less than 18 inches, presumably like Victoria Beckham, take heed! As for me, I’m still thrilled with the space between my thighs, and I will continue to exercise, eat healthfully, think happy thoughts and monitor my blood pressure!

Still … she recently told E! News that she’s avoiding the scales of injustice. “If I start weighing myself I will start being like, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t eat so I could lose some more,’ I would go to that end. I would get obsessed with that fact that I was losing it and I would keep at it.”

But seriously folks, her weight loss, while perhaps the most visible change along with her stomach muscles, is the least of it. More importantly, Kelly is on the road to transformation and reinvention. She is evolving, not just improving!

Will she make it through to the Dancing With the Stars finale? Will she continue to dance after the show is over and the dancing lights go dark? How will Kelly keep moving forward? AND YOU!!! How will you evolve?
